Designed by Maija Isola in 1964, Unikko has grown into one of the world’s most recognisable prints. At the time, Marimekko’s founder Armi Ratia felt that the essence of real flowers couldn’t be captured through pattern, and floral motifs were absent from the collections. Isola responded by reimagining the flower in a bold, abstract form. One that celebrated creativity rather than imitation. Today, Unikko stands as a vibrant symbol of joy and an enduring cornerstone of Marimekko’s design identity.
