A New Chapter for Our Fortitude Valley Flagship

There is a certain magic to an old building. If you have ever walked into our flagship furniture store at 69 James Street, Fortitude Valley, you may have noticed the history in the bones of the place. Built in 1878, this corner building has worn many hats: a family home, a local newsagency, a restaurant, and a community hub.
For sixteen years, it has also been our home. Our Fortitude Valley flagship has seen us grow from a new brand into one of Brisbane's most loved furniture stores. But, as more Brisbane and Fortitude Valley furniture lovers found their way through our doors and our collection grew, we realised we were running out of room to show you the full picture.
So, we did something a little bold.
We knocked down the walls into our neighbouring shop space and started a new chapter.
While the brickwork itself is not original, we added it to highlight the authentic 1878 masonry we discovered hidden behind the walls. Raw, textured and full of character which set the tone for everything that followed. It was a reminder that the best things are built to last. It's also exactly what we have always believed about Mid-Century Modern furniture.
Read on for a look inside the expanded space, and the sixteen year story that brought us here.
Inside Our Expansion: What’s New
The extra space has allowed us to finally achieve our goal of showcasing how our pieces function within two distinct, open-plan environments.
Each space has been carefully styled from the ground up. Rugs anchor the zones, and each dining setting flows naturally into a thoughtfully designed living room setting. This is the difference between simply shopping for furniture and seeing how it can work in your own home. Plus, there’s more.
The Fabric Studio
Tucked into the new section is our Fabric Studio, which features a curated, tactile display of our upholstery range. Choosing a fabric is one of the most personal parts of furnishing a home, and we wanted to make that process feel intuitive rather than overwhelming. Run your hands across the weaves, learn about our special-order options, select swatches to test in your own home, and take your time.
The Chair Gallery
One of our favourite additions to the new space is the Chair Gallery. With over 25 timber dining chairs in our collection, we wanted to make it effortless to compare profiles, finishes, and styles side by side.

Let’s Backtrack. Why Mid-Century Modern Furniture?
To understand why we do what we do, you have to go back to where we started.
In 2010, we were a small family team with the simple but firm belief that beautiful, high-quality furniture should be accessible to everyone, not a luxury reserved for a fortunate few. We had grown tired of not only the fast furniture cycle, where pieces were bought cheaply and replaced without a second thought, but the high-priced luxury category which was unattainable for modern families. We wanted to do things differently.
So, we went straight to the source. We sought out makers and workshops who shared our passion for the Mid-Century Modern aesthetic, a design movement built on the idea that furniture should prioritise purpose, comfort, and honest, uncluttered form. No unnecessary ornamentation or fleeting trends. Just beautifully considered pieces, designed to feel as relevant in twenty years as they do today.
Paired with the clean, functional beauty of Scandinavian and Danish design, this became the philosophy at the heart of everything we do.The workshops we partner with, some of whom we have worked alongside for more than a decade, are places where woodworking is a skill passed down through generations. A dining table is not just a product, but the result of a long tradition of craft and care. Where a dining table is not just a product, but the result of a long tradition of craft and care.
When we brought our first pieces to Brisbane, it was never about filling a room quickly. It was about offering a foundation for the home. Pieces built to age gracefully alongside you, to gather around, to hand down.
Today, sixteen years on, this belief remains at the centre of what we do.
16 Years on James Street: Growing Into Our Space
We first moved into 69 James Street in 2010, and we started small.
Our original home in this building was a small back room on Arthur Street, a modest space that had previously served as an Indian restaurant. It was humble but it was ours. Today, that same back room is where you will find our Marimekko cushions, towels, and textiles, plus our mid-century lighting range.

From there, growth came gradually. As the years went on, one small part of the building became two, two became a floor, and before long the entire ground level was ours, along with a small upstairs area that became our outlet space where you can find exceptional pieces at reduced prices. Our national head office eventually followed, settling into the floors above the showroom. The whole operation, under one roof.
What we love most about the space today is that if you pay attention as you move through it, you can feel that history. Every corner you turn is slightly different. The front of the store features warm, timber-lined walls, the original back room boasts breathtaking floor-to-ceiling windows, and our latest extension introduces a new brick feature wall.
Each room tells the next part of our story.

Come See It For Yourself
Growth, for us, has never been about getting bigger. It has been about getting better. Better at helping you find pieces you will love for years, and better at showing you how those pieces can come together to make a home feel truly yours.
The expanded space at our Fortitude Valley furniture showroom is the fullest expression of that yet, and we would love for you to experience it in person.
Wander through the two open-plan living spaces, spend some time in the Chair Gallery, run your hands across the fabrics, and let our team know if you have any questions.
If you are based in Brisbane or passing through Fortitude Valley, we would love to see you. And if one of our other showrooms is more convenient, the same warm welcome is waiting for you there too.
